150th Anniversary Celebration

TLC Worship Service, TLM, Church

WOW! 150 years! “Great is Your faithfulness!” God has been faithful all of those years. That is reason to celebrate. We at Trinity Lutheran Church recognize that it is God who has been faithful to His promises. When we look back on what God has done with us through all of these years, we can only wonder what it was like back at the time of the founding of this c

ongregation in 1868. Our God was there. Our country was struggling with being torn apart by the Civil War,

many homes were fatherless, families all over the country, the state, and yes, even Jackson were feeling the effects of the war. But God was faithful in bringing together a group who were thirsty for the pure Word of God. Trinity Congregation was born.

Trinity was to see joy beyond measure – and yes, some struggles and conflicts – but God is faithful; Word and Sacrament ministry prevailed. Trinity saw periods of growth, decline, and change, but God never changed; He is faithful.

Now it is time to celebrate what God has done and look forward to what He has in store for us in the years to come. Four major activities are planned, and we hope you will mark your calendars and plan to celebrate with us.

October 21-22, 2017 – We will celebrate

and remember our history. On Saturday, October 21, our school will be transformed into a “museum” of Trinity’s past. From 1:00 to 5:00pm, Trinity will host an interactive historical museum at Trinity Lutheran School. Using a wealth of archived church photos and documents and artifacts from Trinity’s history, visitors can experience the growth and development of our church’s 150-year history. Not only that, but the museum will also highlight events of local and national historical significance, showing how Trinity both reflected and reacted to cultural change. We are grateful for the loan of items from Ella Sharp Historical Museum in Jackson to add to our collection. Come join us for an afternoon of fun activities and a window into the growth of our church from its earliest moments through history and into the future. There will be some children’s activities as well.

Rev. Dr. David Buegler, our former vicar and pastor, will bring us a special message on Sunday, October 22, at a single weekend service at 9:30am.

March 11, 2018 – We will celebrate missions. God has called us to reach out with the Gospel touching our past, present, and future. We will start our morning with breakfast and a mission celebration in Emma Stowe Hall.  We will be showing a video that captures and celebrates how God has blessed our mission efforts over the years.  This will include highlights from church, school, Rev. Dr. David Erber’s ministry in Africa, MOST mission trips, and more. Rev. Dr. David P. E. Maier, the president of the Michigan District of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, will be our guest preacher at a single weekend service at 10:30am.

June 9-10, 2018 – We will celebrate our position in the community with an action-filled day on Saturday, June 9, sending teams of Trinity members into the community to serve local areas of need. Our efforts will include activities such as painting, gardening, and cleanup. For this weekend, we will be blessed to have Rev. Dr. Dale Meyer, former Lutheran Hour speaker and president of Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO, as our guest preacher on June 10, celebrating our downtown location and the community we serve. This will be a single weekend service at 9:30am.

Finally on October 20-21, 2018 – We will gather around food, fellowship, and the Word of God. We will be having a celebration dinner at the Country Club of Jackson. Along with wrapping up our 150th year, we will hear from guest speaker Rev. Dr. Lawrence Rast, Jr., president of Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, IN, and renowned LCMS historian.

We will be blessed to have the Rev. Dr. Matthew Harrison, the president of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, as our guest preacher on Sunday at a single weekend service at 9:30am.

Additional events can be found in the enclosed brochure.

These opportunities to celebrate remind us of the great celebrations of the past and point us toward the future with joy in our hearts. Great is Your faithfulness!
